While not quite the match of the 5.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note, the newly unveiled HTC TITAN still sports HTC's largest smartphone screen to date - a 4.7-inch WVGA 480x800 pixel display. Running Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango), the slimline, 9.9 mm (0.39 inch) TITAN features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5GHz CPU, an 8 megapixel camera, dual LED flash and 720p video recording. Along with TITAN, HTC has also announced a lower specced Windows Phone 7.5 arrival in the form of 3.8-inch HTC Radar.
HTC TITAN and HTC Radar are among first devices to offer the recently introduced Windows Phone 7.5 platform dubbed Mango. The update brings around 500 improvements, with upgraded multitasking and Internet Explorer 9 browser supporting HTML5.
HTC TITAN
HTC TITAN is powered via Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5GHz CPU and 512MB of RAM and there's 16GB of internal storage (12.63 GB available). The 8 megapixel camera has an f/2.2 aperture lens, a dedicated camera button, and comes with a BSI (back-illuminated) sensor aimed at improving low-light images. There's also a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera.
The TITAN offers tethering functionality for internet sharing via WiFi, HTC Locations and Bing Maps apps are built-in to utilize the GPS receiver and the phone also has a gyro sensor, G-sensor, digital compass and ambient light sensor.
Connectivity options include 3G, Bluetooth 2.1 , 3.5 mm audio jack, or micro USB 2.0 and the lithium-ion battery has 1600 mAh capacity.
The HTC TITAN's housing is made from a brushed aluminum, it weighs 160 grams (5.6 oz) with battery and measures 131.5 x 70.7 x 9.9mm (5.18 x 2.78 x 0.39 inches).
HTC Radar
Featuring a 3.8-inch WVGA 480x800 screen, the HTC Radar is powered via 1GHz CPU and comes with a 5 megapixel camera with f/2.2 lens, LED flash, BSI sensor and 720p HD video recording, while its front facing camera has VGA resolution. Comparing to TITAN, Radar's internal storage is halved to 8GB (6.54 GB available for user), while tethering, Bing Maps or HTC Locations are also on board. HTC Radar is slightly lighter than TITAN, at 137 grams (4.83oz), while at the same time it's a bit thicker at 10.9mm (0.43 inch).
Both smartphones will be available from October 2011, first in Europe and Asia. Although prices have yet to be officially released, the British Amazon website is currently listing the TITAN for preorder at GBP489.99 (US$788) and the Radar at GBP349.99 (US$562).
